We will be taking a brief hiatus here at lowcarbpediatrician.com. Look for a new post on July 16. It was interesting, I had a great conversation with my father-in-law today. He, like many, has had a difficult time rejecting the failed food pyramid. However, over the last few weeks I think his mind has opened. “You may be riding a wave here Brad.” Maybe so. But I do it knowing that science is on my side. In addition, I had two teenage come into the office for yearly physicals this week. Both kids were well above the 95% on their BMI the year before. Both kids decided, on their own, to cut out the carbs. The weight loss and BMI change was dramatic. In this situation, I usually grab a nurse or my nurse practitioner, Judith (who is an LCHF guru) and show them what this patient has accomplished — life long well being. We laugh and give a high five or two. I then grill the young person on the specifics and the answer is “low carb.” It’s not a big surprise. When I talk about low carb with families, they do not act surprsied. The reaction typically is “we already knew that, what took you so long to admit it?” I shrug and go on to explain LCHF. Here is a podcast between Alec Baldwin and Guru Dr Robert Lustig, a pediatric endocrinologist — two people who live in the real world of Real Food.
